Bumping into Folksy Folk!

Today I had the good fortune of meeting a fellow folksier!

I was having a stroll through the Grainger Market which is in the heart of Newcastle city centre, where there has been a craft fair on over the weeks leading to Christmas, and notice a familiar name across a stall - Blissknits.

I was drawn in to the beautiful display and ended up buying a lovely handmade brooch for a Christmas present....and I also ordered two more to collect next week!

It was lovely to meet Sharon, you can visit her folksy shop here www.folksy.com/shops/BlissKnits

Lissi's Little Helper....

My little kity kat Rosie always wants to be involved in everything i'm doing - as I type she has decided that sitting inbetween my arms as I try to type is the best place right now!!
She has been nick-named Nosey-Rosie, which fits her perrrrrfectly!
Above you can see what happened one day when I got my jam pan out for some dyeing - yes, she climbed in on her own accord! Excellent photo opportunity.

New Products Added to Folksy Shop

I have been hanging on to these items but can't wait any longer to get them online for all to see (and hopefully fall so much in love with that they buy!).
I have listed the olive green and brown ones which were recently blogged about, and this lovely (my favourite) marled grey beauty...

More Experimentations.....

So I have been neglecting the old blogger again ( I have myself a full time job as well to do mind!) so thought I would show off my latest experimentation.

This scarf started life by being dyed with onion skins but for some reason it wouldn't take to a lovely rich brown and insisted on settling at a peachy glow. Therefore I decided I would inprint a lovely large nail pattern on either end then re-dye the whole scarf in a dark eucalyptus based dye. I didn't quite know what colour it would turn out and was really pleased to have created an olive green - a new colour to add to my samples!

Fresh From The Jar!

Well, not quite, the scarf was left to brew for seven days and it has taken me nearly a week after to show you all the results! Sorry, I promise to be a better blogger in future :)
The scarf came out a lovely rich brown with random darker markings throughout formed from the nails and water marks.

Time Flies!...

Wow, I can't believe it's over 10days since I last blogged, where has the time gone?!
....mind you I have been busy investigating and joining up with new websites to sell my products and also designing my own website. It's amazing how long you can end up being sat at the computer when you intend to spend just half an hour or so!

So here is my website link http://lissionline.jimdo.com please take a peak and let me know what you think so far.

I have the results from the jar to add too so hopefully get that on later today, and new products to add to my shops so watch this space....

Time to Brew

This morning I was wondering what I could do to make this scarf different from the one I listed a few days ago in my folksy shop....

So I decided I would pop it in the original dye, along with some old nails for extra details, and leave it to brew for a few more days!

I just hope I can wait a few days and curiousity doesn't get the better of me!!

I will post the results for all to see.

First Sale on Folksy!

On Monday I was overwhelmed when I received my first sale from Folksy! (I know it is now Thursday but I have one of those 'day jobs' to attend so have only just got chance to sit and tell you all about it!!)

My buyer was a fellow Folksy shopkeeper herself and she sells lovely handmade jewellery ( www.folksy.com/shops/chiyo ) but she bought a delicate silk scarf necklace from me!

She received it yesterday and says she loves it, which makes me feel so much better about my products, as i got a bit nervous about sending my first item out!

A Good Days Dying....

After the arrival of my fresh batch of silk last weekend I finally had a day off to start dying it!
The day flew by but I managed to produced some lovely colours in shades of warm peaches
and moody greys!
The only problem is I only have have enough silk for one more dye batch so i'm thinking wisely before I plunge in!
I can't wait for the weekend to start making some items, but for now it's off to work.....

Graduate Fashion Week !

Here are some photos of my final major project at Graduate Fashion week, 7th - 11th June 2009. We each got a stand and hanging space - there was 44 students in my class and it was probably the biggest stand at the show.
It was a great opportunity to meet important people!

My project was displayed right at the front of the stand.....

....portfolio samples....
....promotional postcards, lookbook and glass jar packaging concept....
....branded swing tags....

....garments....

University Final Major Project Styling Photography

These were some of my photographic styling images taken to promote my products for my university final major project. They were taken back in May and we had glorious sunshine, which was extremely lucky!
The collection was inspired by the use of chemical dyes within the fashion industry and how we can reduce this by using safer options which would not only benefit the people who work with the dyes but the environment that the waste is deposited onto.
Many starting points and ideas for the natural dyeing techniques were sourced from a book called Eco Colour by Austrailian textile artist India Flint providing great insight to the natural resources around us.
Lastly, a big thanks to Emma for the fabulous modelling x
